Camels Don't Fly by Richard Hays

I have several books that come with audio cassettes, a few with CD's.  This can be a good way to teach your child to read.  Read it to them first, then let them listen to the audio tape and read along with the tape.  I've purchased a few orphaned tapes myself just to listen to the story while I do crocheting.  Audio books can be fun.

Children's books are my favorites.  I love the illustrations, the simple stories, and the joy expressed in them.

Songs of the Range

As I look through my stock to pick out what to feature each day, I'm sometimes surprised by what I find myself.  Once they are listed, I tend to forget about them until I need to find them again when sold.  So it's like:  "Oh, look what I found!"

Cowboys sang a lot when out on the range herding cattle.  It gave them a sense of companionship and cheered them up after a day of hard work.  These songs have their own little brand of charm.  It's an amusing look at a slice of history that is fading away each day.

Feline Felonies by Abigail Browning

Motor Auto Repair Manual 1975 38th Edition

My husband loves restoring old cars.  For some reason, he never buys one from 1975.  He has a 1955 Dodge C3 and a 1978 Chevrolet El Camino SS right now.  He keeps promising it's the last one, but I don't believe him. Cat Knits 20 Delightfully Feline Designs for Handknitters by Melinda Coss

I wish I knew how to knit.  I crochet, but it doesn't have the smooth texture and pattern that you can get with knitted goods.  I tried to learn once, but it bored me.  So why does crocheting knots not do the same thing???

The Kalevala Tales of Magic and Adventure by Kirsti Makinen

I meet a lot of people on the internet.  I often use it for research and when I was trying to find my mother-in-law's brown bread recipe (she didn't use a recipe and didn't want to share it anyway), I talked to the Finnish Embassy and asked them if they could help me find one.  They did. When they noticed I sold books, they asked if I had read the Kalevala yet.  It's a Finnish fairy tale that is almost mythological.  I hadn't then, but this book came in with the books I was reviewing for Foreword Magazine.  It's an amazing story and the illustrations are fantastic.

One More Echo by John Ciardi

I never know exactly what I will find when I buy a "book lot" from another dealer.  It's like bidding on mystery boxes at an auction.  You may know what's in the box, but not what kind.  I've never been disappointed.  It's just that sometimes it's hard to describe them.

I found a couple of Russian books in one lot.  I read no language except English, so I was at a loss.  However, I have friends.  One of them lives in New York.  She knew a Russian girl going to college there, and she was the one that gave me the info on the books.  I sold the more expensive book, but I still have this one left.

Anna by Dagfinn Gronoset

Reading this book touched me.  My grandparents on my father's side had immigrated from Czechoslovakia.  The words of this woman echoed some of stories my Grandma had told me about her homeland.  Even in the states they often plowed ground without an animal; they took turns pulling the heavy old plow.  

Anna was sold for more beer money.  Here's a biography you won't forget after you read it...
